I am still new to joomla, and I am using the latest version (1.5.14) with xampp 1.7.1 and MySql.
When I finished working on my site, I registered for free web hosting with x10.
Now I am done with my site design and have my domain name, but I have no idea how to get the site online.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
**P.S. Please explain it like you are talking to a middle schooler..

Step 1: download filezilla and get your ftp info from your hosting provider
step 2: go to your w drive I believe when you open xammp and upload all files in your www drive to your hosting account
Step 3: ok now you will need your database files, open up your php manager and go to export as compressed SQL file. It will save it to your computer
Step 4: Go to your hosting provider, open php manager and create a database(keep track of all info and be sure to get the host)
Step 5: go to import tables and select the file saved to your computer
Step 6: go to filezilla and download your configuration.php file to your computer
Step 7: open that file in notepad and you will need to change $host, $user, $password, $live_site, $mailfrom, and make sure the $tmp_path, $log_path are correct.
This should get your site up and running
You need to use an FTP program like Filezilla http://filezilla-project.org/ to upload your website to x10. You need to get the username/password and server name from x10. (There are lots of tutorials for uploading with Filezilla on the net, you just need to google for it)
I think it should be obvious, but only upload your Joomla files (i.e. don’t include your xampp files, i.e. only upload files inside xampp/htdocs/)
If you already set up your database in the local server, you may need to export the MySQL database from the local xampp server and import it to your web host (x10). (this tutorial is for wordpress, but the export process should be similar: http://jestro.com/convert-local-wordpres… ). Personally, if the site is small, I’d prefer reinstalling Joomla from scratch on the web host and just copy-paste the website’s content to the web host. If you used custom templates and/or plugins, don’t forget to reinstall them as well.
x10 offers a fantastico like installer that will automate the installation process from the cpanel, once that’s done all you have to do is login to the joomla! backend and begin modifying things.
