Well.. for the front end there isn’t much choice. ECMAscript (the official name of JavaScript) is the web standard for interactive functionality on the browser side.
There are browsers that provide functionality for other forms of scripting (like VBScript), and provide plugins like Flash and Java.
Its just … if you script your page with JavaScript, you are sure it will work on all platforms (with exception of some browsers).
